Alkaline Foods vs Acidic Foods

Alkaline versus acidic foods are based on the pH level of water. If a food has a pH level more than 7, it is considered to be alkaline. If a food has a pH level less than 7, it is considered to be acidic. It is important to keep the pH balance of our blood balanced to prevent problems to our well being. Eating a healthy diet with the right balance of alkaline and acidic foods will help to prevent many serious health problems caused by an imbalance in the blood of alkaline and acidic substances. An excess of eating acidic producing foods will lead to illness like diabetes and migraines as well as many others caused by an overly acidic diet.

Benefits of Eating Alkaline Foods

The importance of eating alkaline producing foods is because they neutralize the effects of acidic foods in the blood stream and in the digestive processes. Bodybuilders tend to focus too much on eating lots of protein which is an acidic food. The end result might be a body waiting for a serious illness to take away the great physique because of the simple lack of alkaline foods in the diet. The ideal balance of alkaline versus acidic foods in the diet is given at eating 80% alkaline foods like vegetables and 20% acidic foods like chicken and other meats.

The old adage of eating an apple a day to keep the doctor away is not far from the truth. Fruits and vegetables are alkaline foods. Meats are acidic foods. If you are craving a diet filled with steak and chcken, your body chemistry is probably out of balance. Choosing fruits and vegetables when your body is craving meats is more of a psychological problem that can be overcome by eating your fruits and veggies before you fill up on meats.

There is a serious problem in America that has been getting worse with the advent of fast food and that is that the majority of Americans suffer from illnesses caused by overly consuming those acidic foods and neglecting the natural requirements of the body for fruits and vegetables.
