Eating healthy when bodybuilding is extremely important. However, eating the correct foods is just as important, if not more so, to deliver the right vitamins, minerals and nutrients to the body while exerting so much energy. These are some of the best bodybuilding foods from the different food groups.
Fruits & Vegetables
These can be consumed in large quantities and are all natural and very healthy:
apples, avocados, bananas, pears, plums, grapes, apricots, nectarines, peaches, oranges, grapefruits, artichokes, broccoli,
cauliflower, carrots, celery, corn, eggplant, peas, green beans, salad, mushrooms, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, zucchini.
Dairy & Eggs
These are important for their calcium and proteins: cheese, cottage cheese, egg whites, milk, sour cream, yogurt.
Breads & Pastas
Plenty of grains need to be consumed as well in multiple forms: bagels, english muffins, rolls, tortillas, whole wheat bread,
whole wheat pita bread, spaghetti, noodles, macaroni.
Meat & Fish
Enough meat is needed for energy and the amount of protein it offers: chicken breasts, beef pot roast, round steaks,
pork tenderloin, lean ground beef, turkey breast, fish fillets, such as salmon, shark, red snapper and halibut,
lamb, venison, scallops, lean ham.
These are based on a cup or so a day: almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, macadamia nuts, peanuts, pecans, pine nuts, walnuts.
Whole, natural foods are always best, however it is not always possible. Plus, flavor should be added to foods as well. Here are some simple, snack foods, along with beverages and condiments to use while bodybuilding.
Cheerios, oatmeal, raisin cereals, whole grain cereals.
Popcorn, rice cakes, whole wheat crackers, sherbert, ice cream, energy/protein bars, soy bars.
Tuna, black beans, kidney beans, lima beans, garbanzo beans, green beans, peas, low fat soups, spinach, broth, peaches, pears, tomato sauce.
Strawberries, blueberries, peaches, orange juice, broccoli, asparagus, frozen shrimp.
Water, 100% fruit juices, tomato juice, diet soda, coffee, tea.
Condiments & Toppings
Balsamic vinegar, chives, garlic, honey, horse radish, mustard, low fat salad dressings, pepper, salsa, non fat mayonnaise, other vinegars, wasabi.
All foods should be eaten in moderation, as well as making sure of eating enough foods from each food group to create a well balanced diet that will promote the most advances while bodybuilding.
